Welcome to Michael Nakamura's AMES student portfolio. Since I first began as a freshman at AMES, I have continually built on my portfolio to show my progress. As I now prepare to depart from the school that has been the foundation for my education over the past four years, I am able to reflect upon the areas where I have found success and the areas where I have worked strenuously to improve. My portfolio contains works that I take a lot of pride in, which follow the AMES DRSLs (Effective Communication, Critical Thinking, and the Application of Knowledge in Civic, Social, and Personal contexts). It also includes my college readiness, the first steps into thinking about career choices, and the various scholarships I have applied for and successfully received. Other key components of my portfolio are my senior project and my AMES memory. It has been difficult to compile everything I have done throughout my educational career at AMES because there have been so many opportunities provided. As it will be tough to leave, the number of doors in my future that AMES has opened are immense.

About Me
I have lived in the same house in Holladay, Utah my entire life. I have lived with my mom, my dad, my sister, and my dog, who all mean so much to me. This house has seen the chronicles of my life. From day two up until the present, the white stucco and brown roof has been the hearth of everything I have done. If a 3-dimensional plane was set up in the world, in my view, my house would be point (0,0,0).
I was born on the day of Super Bowl XXXII in 1998. The Broncos beat the Packers 31-24. I have always loved sports. In fact, I have had season tickets to the Utah Utes football games since before I was born. These include the emotional rivalry against BYU and intense match ups filled with ecstasy or heartbreak. I have sat out in sunshine, rain, snow, and all sorts of bad weather to watch the games. I have also traveled to see the team. If the squad is playing and I am not there, I will always be in my special spot in my house watching the game.Through good and bad, I have been by the team's side and the team has been by my side. Along with watching sports, I have also enjoyed playing sports. I played recreational baseball from t-ball age all the way up to my 8th grade year. I played rec soccer while in grade school. I started playing my favorite sport, basketball, in kindergarten up to 9th grade. I still love playing basketball for fun. As a 9th grader, I picked up tennis. I participated on the school tennis team throughout high school. I hope to continue playing sports for the rest of my life.
Most of my life has been spent with my family. I have enjoyed numerous vacations and activities with them. My parents have always supported me. My mom has packed my lunch from my first day at school to my last day in my senior year (and I am not ashamed of this, in fact, I'm proud of it). My dad has always been willing to help me, no matter what the situation. Both my parents have regularly attended my athletic events and school events. Whenever I am down on myself, they are always by my side to pick me back up. My dog is my buddy. I share many characteristics with him. This includes the three keys to making anyone happy: eating a lot, drinking a lot, and sleeping a lot (to view my awesome dog, please see below). My best friend/sister is who I love spending time with. Spending time hiking in Moab or navigating the streets of New York City, we have done a lot. Both of us would ride bikes in the summer time and go skiing in the winter time. Not a second was wasted.
I started my schooling career at the JCC. After three years of half day pre-school at the JCC and St. Ann's, I began pre-kindergarten at St. Sophia. I stayed at this school up until 6th grade (the last grade at the school). For junior high I attended St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School. After enduring two years of strict rules and dress codes, I attended AMES. It has been a roller coaster four years at AMES, but I have never regretted a second.
As a reader, a common inquiry might be how this relates to a house. Well, my house is not only the hearth but the storage for everything I have done. My room is littered with Utah football gear and souvenirs from vacations. School papers are quite abundant in my room. Also, my home is the place where I get to spend time with my favorite three people and my dog. And food… home has all of the food.
